The AU men's soccer team absorbed its first loss of the season Sunday (Sept. 16) at Saginaw Valley State, losing by a 1-0 count. The loss leaves the Eagles with a 3-1-1 mark, 2-1 in GLIAC play. The Cardinals are 5-1 and 2-1 within the conference.
The home team scored the only goal of the afternoon at 69:00, Craig Neal pushing a shot into the goal from the right side. SVSU had a 16-7 edge in shots. The shutout went to SVSU keeper Jason Wise. He had three saves.
This was AU's first road conference road test of the season. The Eagles were coming off a 2-1 triumph against Malone on Friday night. This game marked the first time this season the Eagles have been held without a goal.
Ashland will return to action this coming Friday when it hosts Northwood (Sept. 21, 4 p.m.).
