Anyone who's had to try and untangle one of those miniscule chains that pieces of jewelry come on can appreciate the way Sunday's (Oct. 16) Saginaw Valley State-Ashland men's soccer match at Ferguson Field played out.
The two teams battled for 110 minutes and neither team could score. For every push the Eagles made, SVSU would counter with one of its own. The play was spirited throughout the afternoon, but neither team gained an advantage. The deadlock left the Eagles with a 3-8-3 mark, 2-5-2 in the GLIAC. Saginaw Valley State is 9-2-3, 5-2-2 in conference play.
AU keeper Justin Nolan (Medina, Ohio/Highland) registered six saves. SVSU keeper Jason White had two saves. Ashland had a 13-12 edge in shots and the Cardinals enjoyed a 7-4 edge in corner kicks.
This was Ashland's second consecutive shutout. On Friday, the Eagles shut down Northwood, 3-0.
AU's next match is Thursday (Oct. 16, 7:30 p.m.) against Ohio Dominican. That is the final home date of the season. After that, the Eagles will close out the regular season with three road contests.
