ASHLAND, Ohio – In a nonconference tune-up before a key GLIAC match on Friday (Oct. 14), the AU tennis team swept Cedarville, 9-0, on Tuesday (Oct. 11) at the AU Tennis Courts.
The Eagles (9-3, 8-3 GLIAC) lost just 20 games in the entire match. Junior Erika Sullivan (Broadview Heights, Ohio/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) did not lose a game in her match at second singles, 6-0, 6-0.
Seniors Torrie Goudy (Lexington, Ohio), Paige Cooper (Mansfield, Ohio/Lexington), freshman Zdenka Pozo (Cochahamba, Bolivia/Cochabamba Cooperative), sophomore Kira Kotova (Moscow, Russia) and freshman Sally Trout (Laura, Ohio/Milton-Union) all won in straight sets in singles play.
Pairings of Cooper-Goudy, Sullivan-Pozo and Kotova-Trout each won in doubles play by an 8-1 score.
The Eagles now host Ohio Dominican on Friday (Oct. 14) at 3 p.m. on the AU Tennis Courts. AU is tied for fourth in the GLIAC with Ferris State, but holds a tiebreaker over the Bulldogs after beating them, 7-2, last week. FSU plays Grand Valley State – which holds a half-match lead over AU – on Thursday.
