Ashland University's athletic department strives for excellence in all phases of the student-athlete experience.
Â
The Eagles continued to stretch out their impressive recent academic run in the spring of 2026, as, for the sixth straight semester, every AU sports team finished with a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.0.
Â
"The last several weeks as a department we had a student-athlete honored as valedictorian of the Class of 2026, two student-athletes recognized as salutatorians, and soccer student-athlete
Dani Hicks honored as the G-MAC Female Collegiate Athlete of the Year which consists of excellence in academics, athletics and community service," noted Ashland Director of Athletics
Al King. "Now comes the news on the grades report.
Â
"I'm proud of the student-athletes and coaches who've worked hard to accomplish this and I'm so grateful to the faculty, academic counseling and our counselors in Athletics,
Elizabeth (Hoge) and
DaJuan (Seward), for their work. This has been a rewarding semester on the 'academic scoreboard,' and at the end of the day, is there anything more important?"
Â
Said Hoge, AU Assistant Athletic Director / Senior Woman Administrator / Director of Academic Support Services for Athletics, "I am thrilled with the academic performance of our student-athletes. Each semester, our student-athletes prove they can be high-achieving not only in competition, but in their academics as well. I am very proud of all of the work they put into balancing their responsibilities and taking their work in the classroom seriously. I also appreciate the collaborative work of our faculty and coaches in assisting students and creating environments where they can be successful."
Â
In addition to the high GPAs, softball center fielder
Ashley Veldheer was the AU Class of 2026 valedictorian, and women's soccer midfielderÂ
Emily Pate and baseball pitcherÂ
Seth Witt were two of the senior class's salutatorians.
Â
Four AU student-athletes have earned Great Midwest Athletic Conference Elite 26 awards in 2025-26, tying for the most for the athletic department since joining the league – Veldheer, juniorÂ
Rachel Stanchek (women's swimming/diving), sophomoreÂ
Kaelyn Wagner (STUNT) and juniorÂ
Ashley Drexler (women's lacrosse).
Â
Also, three Eagles have earned College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-America citations in 2025-26 –  Hicks (second team), Stanchek (third team), and senior men's diverÂ
Joey Lenczyk (second team).
