Baseball Caps Season with Final Great Midwest Athlete of the Week Honor

The final Great Midwest Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week awards were released.

And on Monday, May 4, the Ashland University baseball team earned one last recognition. 

Concluding the regular season campaign with a 35-14 overall record and 23-8 mark in G-MAC action, the Eagles went undefeated this past weekend against the Hillsdale College Chargers. Helping lead the charge for the team was sophomore third baseman/outfielder Ryan Shimek. He earned AOTW honors, going 6-for-11 with two doubles, one of which was a walk-off, to help Ashland clinch the North Division regular season championship.

This is the third-consecutive week that a member of the baseball program has been selected as an AOTW. 

With Shimek having a breakout campaign, Ashland will prepare for the G-MAC championships which are set to begin on Wednesday, May 6, against the Ohio Dominican Panthers. The two sides will clash from Prasco Park in Mason, Ohio, at 6:00 p.m. EST.
