Box Score On Wednesday, April 29, the Ashland University softball team opened up it's 2026 run in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Championships with a win. It's the first time the Eagles had won a postseason game since the program was in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference way back in 2017.
The Eagles were able to avenge mid-season losses to the Northwood University Timberwolves, downing them 5-1 to start off this year's bracket play.Â
The Eagles jumped out to a fast start with a three-run first inning, highlighted by a two-RBI double from
Cassidy Shaffer and an RBI single from
Sophia Martin. They were then able to add another run in the second and one more in the fourth to build a comfortable lead. The only run scored by Northwood came in the fourth inning, with Ashland holding the opposing offense at bay for the rest of the outing.
Delaney Maynard led the way offensively, going 2-for-4 with one RBI, while Shaffer also drove in a pair.
In the circle,
Delaney Lis allowed just one run on six hits and struck out two to earn the win.
With the victory, Ashland is going to jump right back into action on Thursday, April 30, against Ohio Dominican. The two sides are set for a 3:00 p.m. EST start.Â
