Crumbacher Breaks AU Goals Record In Women’s Lacrosse’s 50th All-Time Win

There's something very fitting about Ashland University senior attacker Rachel Crumbacher scoring a game-high four goals on Wednesday (Feb. 25).

That something is that Crumbacher became the Eagle women's lacrosse program's all-time leading goal scorer in a 13-7 win over Gannon at Ferguson Field. Crumbacher now has 149 career goals, passing Cassady Becker (146) to lead the program in all-time goals, assists and points.

"It feels so surreal," Crumbacher said. "We have the greatest fans and the greatest team in the entire G-MAC. I'm so lucky to be surrounded by so many people who are so passionate about the game, so passionate about each other.

"It might say that it's my name for the goals, but I couldn't do it without my teammates setting me up for success."

Said Ashland head coach Lauren Simko, "Rachel is very excited about what she can accomplish this season. This is her last go-around, and she has some high goals for herself, and more importantly, for her teammates and for this program."

Ashland moved to 2-1 on the young season after the program's 50th all-time victory.

Said Simko, "They caught us on our heels a little bit (taking a 3-2 lead early in the second quarter), which we were not exactly prepared for, but it was good for us to have to find our way out of a deficit early. And we were able to do that without calling a timeout, which was good for them to take the ownership on the field and run with it."

"The expectation is to win G-MACs, and we know that we can," said Crumbacher. "To us, there's always no other option, since we won it for the first time."

The Golden Knights are 1-2.

Crumbacher also had an assist to finish Wednesday with a five-point game.

POINTS COMING FROM MANY SOURCES
  • Six different Eagles scored goals, and eight different Eagles picked up at least one assist.
  • "Our attack is very balanced," Simko said. "I think the goal grew six inches, because we hit, I think, seven posts. Still working on finding the back of the net."
  • Ashland scored eight consecutive goals to take a 10-3 lead after falling behind 3-2.
  • The Eagles boasted a decided 40-14 shots advantage, while forcing 29 Golden Knights turnovers.
  • Senior goalkeeper Annie Duncan made three saves in the victory.
COMING UP
Rescheduled to Saturday (Feb. 28) at 5 p.m., the Eagles will play host to No. 2-ranked Indianapolis for their next contest.

"We are excited for the match-up and for the challenge," said Simko. "And it's good for us to play teams of that level, just for us to get some experience and hopefully learn some things along the way."
