The Eagles are two games behind the first-place Cavaliers (22-3, 15-3) with two regular-season games to play, and are third place in the conference's point rating system, which seeds teams for the 2026 league tournament.

Eagle women's basketball is 14-10 overall and 10-8 in the Great Midwest – one game behind Walsh (15-11, 11-7) for the fourth and final first-round home game spot in the conference tournament.

Thursday night's games also are the two AU basketball teams' Morgan's Message games. Morgan's Message is a 501(c)(3) that strives to eliminate the stigma surrounding mental health within the student-athlete community and equalize the treatment of physical and mental health in athletics. The organization was created in memory of Morgan Rodgers, a former women's lacrosse player at NCAA Division I Duke who committed suicide in 2019 at the age of 22.

Ashland University has had a Morgan's Message chapter since 2023.
