As announced by the Great Midwest Athletic Conference on Monday (March 9) afternoon, three Ashland University athletes are their respective sport's latest Athletes of the Week – senior goalkeeper
Annie Duncan (women's lacrosse defense), junior back/base/tumbler
Makiah Francis (STUNT) and junior right-handed pitcher
Jackson Grine (baseball North Division pitcher).
Duncan, in an 18-10 win at Quincy on Sunday (March 8), played the first three quarters and made six saves while allowing six goals. This is the second time this spring Duncan has earned a conference weekly award.
Ashland women's lacrosse (3-2) will play on Tuesday (March 10) at 1 p.m. Eastern/noon Central at No. 4-ranked Maryville.
Francis, now a three-time STUNT Athlete of the Week this season, led No. 8 Ashland to a 3-1 record at the St. Edward's STUNT Tournament in Austin, Texas, on Friday and Saturday (March 6-7). She had the highest average ranking on the team over the weekend at 36.25, was AU's top-ranked player in three of four contests, and her overall season rating is 30.11.
Eagle STUNT (13-5) will return to Great Midwest play on March 16 at 6:30 p.m. at Walsh.
Grine helped the Eagles start 4-0 on their annual Florida trip last week, going 1-0 in two games over eight innings, striking out four and allowing no runs, six hits and walk. On Sunday (March 8) vs. Winona State, he won in relief after going 5? scoreless, striking out four and yielding three hits and no walks.
Ashland baseball (8-5) will end its spring break trip on Tuesday (March 10) at 9:45 a.m. vs. Minnesota Duluth (3-9).
