Ashland University's football team snapped its three-game losing streak in impressive fashion on Saturday (Oct. 17) afternoon in Kentucky, running away from Thomas More, 48-10.
Â
The Eagles, in earning all-time program win No. 550, improve to 2-5 overall and 2-3 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference. The Saints are 1-6, 1-4.
Â
Saturday's victory marked 2026 season-highs in points, passing yards (296) and total yards on offense (497), and sacks (six) and interceptions (five) on defense.
Â
The Eagles took the game's opening drive, and after gains of 30 and 40 yards, went ahead 6-0 on a one-yard touchdown run by sophomore tailback
Chris Maloney – despite a missed extra point. Their second drive ended in similar fashion, as junior tailback
Willtrell Hartson scored on an eight-yard TD run – lifting AU to a 13-0 lead halfway through the opening quarter.
Â
A third rushing touchdown of the first quarter came when redshirt freshman fullback
Drexal McAmis went in from three years out for a 20-0 Ashland advantage.
Â
The second quarter brought the first passing score of the game, and it was an explosive one – an 87-yard launch from freshman quarterback
Coy Hamic to sophomore wide receiver
D.J. Harvey for a 27-0 lead. With that, the Eagles had a season-high in points in a game less than 17 minutes in.
Â
Thomas More got on the board at the 8:56 mark of the second period on a 1-yard touchdown pass from Ben Chesser to Numehnne Gwilly. But following a three-yard Saints punt, Hamic connected with freshman wide receiver
Andrew McKnight for a 55-yard touchdown to get those seven points back and lead 34-7.
Â
Ashland avoided problems to end the first half despite losing a muffed punt and a fumble, only yielding a 31-yard Davis Burleigh field goal as the half closed to take a 34-10 lead into the locker room. The first 30 minutes on Saturday featured a combined 44 points and 521 yards of offense.
Â
Freshman cornerback
Kayden Myers picked off a pass for a second consecutive week, which set up sophomore fullback
Mekhi Bradley's one-yard scoring plunge for a 41-10 lead with 5:06 left in the third quarter.
Â
Hartson's second rushing touchdown of the afternoon, this one from five yards out, for the game's final margin at the 2:15 mark of the third.
Â
Hamic finished 14-for-20 for 296 yards and two touchdowns in his second collegiate start, and Harvey was the main recipient, ending with eight catches for 191 yards and a score.
Â
Ashland now is 4-0 all-time against Thomas More.
Â
