Five Eagles Land On CSC D-II Baseball Academic All-District Team

The College Sports Communicators (CSC) announced on Tuesday (June 3) afternoon that five Ashland University baseball players have earned spots on the 2025 CSC NCAA Division II Academic All-District team.

• Senior left-handed pitcher Brendan Beaver graduated with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.87 as a Business Administration major. In 2025, he was 2-5 with three saves and a 7.06 earned-run average, and struck out 44 batters in 43 1/3 innings.
• Junior second baseman Gavin Dobbels sports a 3.65 cumulative GPA as an Accounting major through the 2025 spring semester. This past spring, he hit .240 with 31 runs scored, six doubles, one home run, 23 RBIs and eight stolen bases.
• Senior lefty John Essig graduated with a 3.90 cumulative GPA as an Accounting major. One of the nation's leaders in appearances with 26 and a second-team All-Great Midwest Athletic Conference selection, he was 3-0 with two saves and a 1.98 ERA, while striking out 36 in 27 1/3 innings.
• Redshirt junior shortstop Collin Overholt graduated with a degree in Finance, and with a cumulative GPA of 3.54. A second-team all-conference pick, he led the Eagles in home runs with 10 in 2025, and added a .298 average, a team-high 47 runs scored, 11 doubles, a triple and seven stolen bases. Overholt's 43 walks drawn this season are third-most in a season in program history.
• Senior catcher Ben Peltz graduated as a Sport Management major and with a cumulative GPA of 3.65. In 2025, he hit .269 with 27 runs scored, six doubles, five home runs and 26 RBIs.

Ashland ended its 2025 season at 37-19 overall and 24-8 in the Great Midwest. The Eagles played in both the Great Midwest and NCAA Division II Midwest Regional tournaments.
