Softball Loses At Northwood, Second Game Halted In Sixth Due To Weather

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Ashland University's softball team began its trip north to Michigan on Friday (April 18) with a 6-5 loss at Northwood in Game 1, then had Game 2 halted due to weather with the Timberwolves leading 4-3 in the top of the sixth inning.

The Eagles officially are 22-15 overall and 12-5 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference, and the Timberwolves are 21-14, 11-6.

Sophomore catcher Delaney Keith's two-out RBI double in the top of the first inning got things started in Game 1. The Timberwolves got the run back in the bottom of the first.

The back and fourth continued in the second, as senior first baseman Lily Rockwell's third home run of the season put AU ahead again at 2-1. Northwood responded again with a four-spot in the second to regain the lead at 5-2.

Another Eagle solo shot – sophomore center fielder Delaney Maynard's second of the season – made it a 5-3 NU lead in the third. In the sixth, senior right fielder Chloe McClure knotted the game at 5 with a two-run single.

Northwood, however, scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh.

Friday's second game started with the Timberwolves scoring twice in the first inning. The Eagles cut the early deficit in half in the second thanks to a two-out Northwood error, but after the T'Wolves scored twice in the second, that deficit became 4-1.

Rockwell's fourth round-tripper of the season, a solo shot in the sixth, cut Northwood's lead to 4-2. That lead became 4-3 later in the sixth when junior second baseman Danielle Robbins brought a run in with a two-out single – right before the game was halted.

…AND THE REST OF THE STORY
