On Sunday (March 9) at Kates Gymnasium, Ashland University's No. 9-ranked STUNT team earned a pair of Senior Day wins against Purdue (No. 11 among club teams) 20-0, and No. 17 Walsh, 16-1.
The Eagles are 16-4 overall and 5-1 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference – two overall wins away from last season's program-record 18. Ashland has won six games in a row, and 12 of its last 13.
"It was a pretty good day," said Ashland head coach
Denise Farnsworth. "I was not satisfied with the first one, but the second one was a much better turn-around. Seniors had a good day, the fans were amazing and I'm grateful for all of it."
Farnsworth singled out the play of sophomore flyer/tumbler
Savanna Mahaffey as a key for the Eagles' recent success.
"We've gotten better each weekend," she said. "I've been working with Savanna a lot on mental game. She's getting better. She's a sophomore. She never flew before she got here, and all of a sudden, she's in 13 routines this year, compared to maybe three last year."
Ashland's top performer on Sunday was senior flyer/tumbler
Alyssa McLaughlin, who scored 40 points vs. the Boilermakers and 44 points against the Cavaliers.
Sunday's games were AU's last at home until the 2025 Great Midwest Championship on March 29.
