Roberts Joins USTFCCCA D-II Collegiate Athlete Hall Of Fame In 2025 Class

Ashland University shot put coach Kurt Roberts is a Hall of Famer for a second year in a row.

After going into the Ashland University Hall of Fame in 2024, Roberts is a member of the 2025 class of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II Collegiate Athlete Hall of Fame.

"It has been a dream year being inducted into the AU Hall of Fame, being brought on as a coach at the university that afforded me this success, and now, being inducted into the Division II Hall of Fame," Roberts said following the announcement on Wednesday (Feb. 19) afternoon.

"This sparks memories of the year that I broke the national record (2010), and the bear hug I received from coach (Jud) Logan afterwards. Watching my teammates Abby Kacsandi, Kelly Ash and Steph Tinney all win a national title in the same day was unforgettable. The team I was surrounded by and the way we all pushed each other to greater heights was second to none. I am forever grateful to Ashland University."

Roberts won three NCAA Division II shot put national championships – as a sophomore outdoors in 2009 (18.78 meters/61-feet-7½), and as a junior and senior indoors in 2010 (19.79 meters/64-feet-11½) and 2011 (19.48 meters/63-feet-11). He was a key cog in the Eagle men finishing tied for sixth in the nation as a team outdoors in 2009, seventh indoors in 2010 and second indoors in 2011.

His best indoor mark of 19.80 meters/64-feet-11½ puts him as the No. 5 man in the event in D-II history, and his top outdoor heave of 19.55 meters/64-feet-1¾ puts him at No. 18 in all-time D-II men's shot put annals.

Roberts also boasts seven D-II All-American citations, all in the shot put (four indoors, three outdoors). He was a two-time USTFCCCA men's Midwest Region Indoor Field Athlete of the Year (2008-09, 2009-10), and 2009-10 USTFCCCA men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Year.

He becomes the seventh former Eagle to be enshrined in the USTFCCCA D-II Collegiate Athlete Hall of Fame, joining Kirt Thompson (Class of 2024), Katie Nageotte Moon (2022), Bryan Vickers (2020), Adriane Blewitt Wilson (2018), Jackie Jeschelnig Ulm (2018) and Sean Robbins (2017).

Joining Roberts in the 2025 class are Mobolade Ajomale of Academy of Art, Lerone Clarke of Lincoln (Mo.), Sheena Devine of Bemidji State, Caroline Kurgat of Alaska Anchorage, Lauren Martin of Adams State, Aucencio Martinez of Adams State, and Lauren Stelten of Minnesota State.
