On Thursday (Dec. 18), Ashland University wrestling rocketed from being tied for 21st in the nation according to National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Division II to ninth in the nation. Six wrestlers remain in the national individual rankings, poising Eagle wrestling as a fierce competitor in the early season.
Senior
Sevriano Garza (174 pounds) and junior
Hayden Kuhn (149 pounds) rank in the top three nationally, sitting at 2
nd and 3
rd, respectively. Garza rose eight spots, ranking 10th in the nation in the prior NWCA poll. Kuhn has continued his growth, moving from 6
th to 3
rd nationally.
Their efforts are joined by redshirt senior
Wyatt Bailey's emergence in national rankings, placing 7
th nationally at 285 pounds. Junior
Peyton Lemon (197 pounds) moved from 15
th to 8
th in the nation. Junior
Luke Acuna (125 pounds) ranks 12
th, and redshirt freshman
Fletcher Rose (184 pounds) ranks 14
th to compete the Eagles' half-dozen national contenders.
Eagles wrestling most recently competed at the 46th Midwest Classic, finishing 9th overall with Garza and Kuhn taking second place in their respective weight classes.
