Pannunzio Ends Eagle Career As Second-Team CSC Academic All-American

A stellar 2024 senior season for Ashland University wide receiver Tony Pannunzio was punctuated on Tuesday (Jan. 28) afternoon with a second-team College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-America citation.

This past season, Pannunzio, one of the best walk-on-to-starter stories in recent AU memory, gained 933 receiving yards – fifth-most in a season in program history, and the most since the Ashland Hall of Fame pair of Nick Bellanco (1,101) and Joe Horn (1,065) in 2008.

Pannunzio also was 2024 CSC Academic All-District and second-team All-Great Midwest Athletic Conference.

Through the fall 2024 semester, he sported a 3.92 cumulative grade-point average as a Biology major.

Pannunzio becomes the 23rd Eagle football player to earn Academic All-American status, and the AU football program now has 29 such honors in total.

Through the 2024 fall season, Ashland's athletic department has 116 all-time Academic All-American honorees. The four such awards during fall of 2024 are the most in a fall season since 2020.

In 2024, the Eagles finished 9-4 overall and 8-1 in the Great Midwest, winning the conference championship outright and winning a road NCAA Division II postseason game for the first time in program history. Ashland was 23rd in the final 2024 American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division II Coaches Poll.
