A stellar 2024 senior season for Ashland University wide receiver
Tony Pannunzio was punctuated on Tuesday (Jan. 28) afternoon with a second-team College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-America citation.
Â
This past season, Pannunzio, one of the best walk-on-to-starter stories in recent AU memory, gained 933 receiving yards – fifth-most in a season in program history, and the most since the Ashland Hall of Fame pair of
Nick Bellanco (1,101) and
Joe Horn (1,065) in 2008.
Â
Pannunzio also was 2024 CSC Academic All-District and second-team All-Great Midwest Athletic Conference.
Â
Through the fall 2024 semester, he sported a 3.92 cumulative grade-point average as a Biology major.
Â
Pannunzio becomes the 23
rd Eagle football player to earn Academic All-American status, and the AU football program now has 29 such honors in total.
Â
Through the 2024 fall season, Ashland's athletic department has 116 all-time Academic All-American honorees. The four such awards during fall of 2024 are the most in a fall season since 2020.
Â
In 2024, the Eagles finished 9-4 overall and 8-1 in the Great Midwest, winning the conference championship outright and winning a road NCAA Division II postseason game for the first time in program history. Ashland was 23
rd in the final 2024 American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division II Coaches Poll.
