Both of Ashland University's tennis teams have taken their non-conference success in 2023-24 into Great Midwest Athletic Conference play, as the Eagle men and women each defeated Cedarville on Saturday (March 24) at the Aspen Racquet Club in Wooster, Ohio.

The Eagle men topped the Yellow Jackets, 7-0, to move to 10-0 overall and 1-0 in the league, while the AU women beat Cedarville, 6-1, to go to 10-3, 1-0. Ashland's men have their second-most wins in a season since returning as a program in 2018-19 (13-12).

In the men's match, Ashland started with the doubles point by winning two of three matches – sophomore
Tomas Paskauskas and freshman
Batsomi Marobela at No. 1 (6-4), and sophomore
Rodrigo Moura Ludgero and junior
Fabian Bussard at No. 2 (6-2).

Sweeping the singles matches were Ludgero at No. 1 (7-5, 6-1), Marobela at No. 2 (7-6, 6-2), Paskauskas at No. 3 (7-6, 6-4), Bussard at No. 4 (6-3, 3-6 (1-0)), sophomore
Reid Opel at No. 5 (4-6, 6-1 (1-0)), and sophomore
Gabriel Seminario at No. 6 (6-4, 6-3).

The Eagle women also won the double point to start out, winning with sophomores
Ana Penteado and
Constanza Arancibia at No. 2 (6-2), and junior
Claudia Adcock and freshman
Luciana Ottoni at No. 3 (6-1).

They then won five of six singles matches with Penteado at No. 2 (7-6, 6-4), junior
Kortney Reed at No. 3 (7-6, 6-0), Arancibia at No. 4 (6-2, 6-4), Ottoni at No. 5 (6-1, 7-5), and sophomore
Anna Corbel at No. 6 (7-5, 6-4).
