No. 12 AU Wrestling Starts, Ends Competition At D-II Nationals

On the first day of the 2024 NCAA Division II wrestling Championships on Friday (March 15) in Park City, Kan., all five of the No. 12-ranked Ashland University qualifying wrestlers were eliminated.

At 184 pounds, No. 2-ranked graduate Daniel Beemer went 1-2 – defeating Millersville's Anthony Giampietro by a 19-3 technical fall before losses in the quarterfinal and the second round of consolations.
No. 6-ranked graduate Drew Wiechers went 1-2 at 157 pounds – taking a 20-9 major decision from Central Missouri's Anthony Erickson before quarterfinal and second-round consolation defeats.
At 125 pounds, No. 9-ranked freshman Luke Acuna finished 0-2.
No. 10-ranked 165-pound sophomore Sevriano Garza ended nationals at 2-2 – earning a pin in 4:02 over UNC Pembroke's Caleb Grau and a 16-6 major decision Emmanuel's Christian Trimble and losing in the championship first round and consolation second round.
Sophomore Nate Barrett was 0-2 at 174 pounds.
