Barrett Earns All-American Status, Finishes Eighth at Nationals For Eagles

Barrett Was Ashland's Sole All-American in 2026

On Day 2 of the 2026 NCAA Championships in Sioux Falls, S. D., the Ashland University Eagles wrestling team was represented by just one grappler: senior Nate Barrett.

He earned All-American status with an eighth-place finish in the 165-pound weight class bracket. Heading into nationals, he was unranked, but two wins on Friday allowed him to enter the consolation bracket and attempt to make a run.

Barrett started the day with a win over New Mexico Highland's Ivan Smith Jr., 14-6, before falling in his next match, 1-0, to McKendree's Sam Richardson.

The Eagles finished the trip to nationals with one All-American in Barrett.

The team now turns its attention to resetting and retooling in the offseason.
