No. 19 Ashland Wrestlers Top No. RV Roughnecks, Win Second Straight Dual

Ashland University's wrestling team is hitting its stride at just the right time.

The No. 19-ranked Eagles rallied to win for the second time in three days, defeating No. RV Findlay, 23-21, in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference road dual on Sunday (Feb. 4) afternoon.

Ashland, after a 1-9 start in duals in 2023-24, has moved to 3-9 – and also won the 2024 Great Midwest Championship. The Roughnecks are 3-8.

The Eagles received early victories from redshirt freshman 125-pound Luke Acuna (13-6 decision) and freshman 149-pounder Hayden Kuhn (11-3 major decision), but trailed 18-7.

That's when Ashland, like Friday (Feb. 2) night at home vs. Tiffin, came alive.

Sophomore Sevriano Garza took a 4-2 decision at 165 pounds, graduate 174-pounder Nick Carbone followed with a 7-4 overtime win, No. 2-ranked Daniel Beemer earned an 18-2 technical fall at 184 pounds, and redshirt freshman Peyton Lemon clinched the team victory with a 21-5 technical fall at 197 pounds.

UP NEXT
Ashland will go back on the road to take on Notre Dame College (1-11) on Friday (Feb. 9) at 7 p.m..
