A pair of non-conference tennis matches on Sunday (Feb. 25) at the Aspen Racquet Club in nearby Wooster, Ohio, went Ashland University's way, as the Eagle men and women each defeated Franciscan, 7-0.
The Eagle men improve to 7-0 in 2023-24, and the Eagle women up their season mark to 7-3.
In the men's match, the Eagles took all three doubles matches, thanks to the No. 1 team of freshman
Batsomi Marobela and sophomore
Tomas Paskauskas (6-2), the No. 2 pairing of freshman
Kaj Salzano and junior
Omar Prince (6-2), and the No. 3 grouping of junior
Fabian Bussard and sophomore
Reid Opel (6-3).
At singles, Ashland's men also swept those six matches – sophomore
Rodrigo Moura Ludgero at No. 1 (6-1, 6-2), Marobela at No. 2 (6-2, 6-4), Bussard at No. 3 (6-3, 6-2), Salzano at No. 4 (6-0, 6-2), sophomore
Gabriel Seminario at No. 5 (6-0, 6-0), and Opel at No. 6 (6-1, 6-0).
The women's match also saw AU sweep the three doubles matches – sophomore
Anna Corbel and junior
Kortney Reed at No. 1 (6-3), sophomores
Constanza Arancibia and
Ana Penteado at No. 2 (6-1), and freshman
Brittany Witsken and sophomore
Alley Stoehr at No. 3 (6-0).
In singles, the Ashland women also went 6-0 – junior
Claudia Adcock at No. 1 (6-3, 6-4), Arancibia at No. 2 (6-3, 6-1), freshman
Luciana Ottoni at No. 3 (6-1, 6-1), Corbel at No. 4 (6-0, 6-0), freshman
