Lenczyk Takes Conference 3-Meter Diving Title, Earns Another NCAA Nationals Mark

Continuing the week-long trend at the 2024 Great Midwest Athletic Conference/Mountain East Conference Championships in Canton, Ohio, yet another conference diving championship is coming back to Ashland University.
 
On Friday (Feb. 16) night, sophomore Joey Lenczyk won the men's 3-meter diving finals with 475.30 points – earning another nationals cut toward the 2024 NCAA Division II Championships, March 12-16 in Geneva, Ohio.
 
This is a repeat of Wednesday (Feb. 14) night, when Lenczyk won the men's 1-meter diving at night, and earned a nationals cut in the event during prelims earlier in the day.
 
Later in the evening, the men's 800-yard freestyle relay quartet of junior Robin Falk, sophomore Nick Olquin, freshman Evan Kemp and sophomore Cole Huebner was the runner-up in 6:57.56.
  • The men's 200 butterfly saw Olquin take fourth (1:55.94), senior Josh Hagan finish fifth (1:56.21), sophomore Ryan Mohler end ninth (1:58.47), sophomore Dewey Black place 14th (2:08.01), and sophomore Josh Bachinsky end 18th (2:13.44).
  • Six Eagles earned points in the men's 500 free – Falk (sixth, 4:44.79), sophomore Jason Basile (seventh, 4:46.66), Mohler (12th, 4:56.09), freshman Grant Brown (16th, 5:02.74), Huebner (17th, 4:58.41), and junior Weston Brown (19th, 5:04.36).
  • In the men's 100 backstroke, freshman Colin Pham was seventh (52.58 seconds), and Kemp eighth (52.69 seconds).
  • The men's 100 breaststroke featured sophomore Nick Girz in eighth (57.99 seconds), sophomore Andrew Oates in 11th (1:00.18), and sophomore Ayden Mason in 13th (1:00.27).
Ashland's men stand in third place going into the final day of the Championships. The Eagles have 871 points, behind only Findlay (1,435) and Frostburg State (973).
 
On the women's side, the 800 free relay team of freshman Nykole Doerner, sophomore Mary Kate Prall, freshman Juliana Pignato and freshman Payton O'Toole took fourth place in 7:59.28. Ashland's women are fourth in the team standings through three days with 460 points. Findlay is first (1,472), Hillsdale is second (1,160), and Frostburg State is slotted third (712.5).
