Eagle Women, Men Sweep Heidelberg At Home

The dual with Heidelberg at Messerly Natatorium was a successful one for Ashland University's men's and women's swimming and diving teams on Saturday (Nov. 9), as the Eagles swept first place in all 26 events.

Ashland's men won 192-24, and the AU women took a 187-38 decision.

"It was a fun event," said Ashland head coach Hueston Holder. "Back-to-back days where we did a lot of 'off' events. I told the team to not really set expectations and just have fun. Really happy with how they held themselves. They competed. They did a great job."

A pair of individual victories were earned on Saturday by freshman Yasmim Tomita in the women's 1,000-yard freestyle (11:28.25) and 200 backstroke (2:12.20), freshman Stephanie Holubetz in the women's 200 free (2:07.64) and 500 free (5:50.38), freshman Brooke Patel in the women's 50 free (26.83 seconds) and 100 free (58.72 seconds), sophomore Payton O'Toole in the women's 200 individual medley (2:17.85) and 200 breaststroke (2:38.52), sophomore Riley Hunt in women's 1-meter (246.05 points) and 3-meter diving (256.60 points), and junior Joey Lenczyk in men's 1-meter (240.75 points) and 3-meter diving (263.05 points).

Hunt made a nationals mark on Friday (Nov. 8) night at Malone - one of two needed to make 2025 NCAA Division II nationals.

"She's way ahead of the curve from last year," Holder noted. "She crushed it last night. All the divers did great. She's halfway there, and we couldn't be more excited for her."

Single individual wins were brought home by: In the women's 200 medley relay, Ashland's team of Tomita, sophomore Blair Pichola, O'Toole and junior Jillian Hull won in 1:56.86; the men's 200 medley quartet of junior Ryan Mohler, Oates, fifth-year Josh Hagan and junior Nick Girz won in 1:41.94; the women's 200 free relay of junior Mary Kate Prall, Tomita, Patel and freshman Jaidyn Jordan won in 1:46.39; and the men's 200 free relay of Olquin, sophomore Grant Brown, Collins and sophomore Evan Kemp was victorious in 1:31.67.
