On Saturday (Sept. 16) in Michigan, Ashland University's tennis teams went 2-0 and 1-1, respectively, as the non-championship portion of the schedule is underway.
The Eagle men (2-0) started 2023-24 with wins over Alma and Spring Arbor, while the AU women (2-1) topped Alma and lost to Spring Arbor.
NOTABLES
- In the 7-0 men's victory over Alma, singles wins were earned by sophomore Rodrigo Moura Ludgero at No. 1 (6-0,6 -0), junior Fabian Bussard at No. 2 (6-0, 6-1), freshman Kaj Salzano at No. 3 (6-0, 6-0), sophomore Benedikt Weinboerner at No. 4 (6-0, 7-5), sophomore Gabriel Seminario at No. 5 (6-0, 6-2), and sophomore Reid Opel at No. 6 (6-0, 6-1).
- Ashland also swept the doubles matches vs. Alma – Ludgero and Bussard at No. 1 (6-3), Salzano and Seminario at No. 2 (6-0), and Opel and Weinboerner at No. 3 (6-2).
- The Eagle women's 6-1 win against Alma saw singles wins from sophomore Ana Penteado at No. 1 (6-1, 6-2), junior Claudia Adcock at No. 2 (6-1, 6-3), sophomore Anna Corbel at No. 3 (6-4, 6-0), junior Kortney Reed at No. 4 (6-0, 6-0), and sophomore Alley Stoehr at No. 5 (6-1, 6-1).
- Ashland's women took two of three doubles matches, as well – Adcock and Reed at No. 1 (6-2), and Penteado and Corbel at No. 2 (6-1).
- The Eagle men topped Spring Arbor, 6-1, as singles winners were Ludgero at No. 1 (3-6, 6-3, 10-5), Bussard at No. 2 (6-3, 6-1), sophomore Tomas Paskauskas at No. 3 (7-6, 6-3), Weinboerner at No. 5 (6-3, 7-5) and Seminario at No. 6 (4-6, 6-3, 10-8).
- Ashland's men also won the doubles point against Spring Arbor, with Ludgero and Bussard winning 6-3 at No. 1, and Salzano and Paskauskas winning 6-4 at No. 2.
- In the women's match against Spring Arbor, Eagle singles wins came from Adcock at No. 2 (6-2, 6-4) and Stoehr at No. 5 (6-1, 6-3). Adcock and Reed won at No. 1 doubles, 6-4.
