Eagle Women, Men Lose At Home To Dragons

On Friday (April 14) at the Deborah Liebert Karl Tennis Complex, Ashland University's tennis teams lost Great Midwest Athletic Conference matches to Tiffin.

The Eagle women (8-8 overall, 3-4 Great Midwest) lost a slim 4-3 decision to the Dragons (17-5, 7-0), while the Ashland men (8-10, 2-4) fell 6-1 to No. 20-ranked Tiffin (17-2, 6-0).

NOTABLES
  • In Friday's women's match, Ashland took the doubles point by winning two of three matchups – freshmen Constanza Arancibia and Ana Penteado at No. 1 (7-5), and sophomore Claudia Adcock and Anna Corbel at No. 2 (6-4).
  • Adcock at No. 2 (7-6(2), 6-3) and Arancibia at No. 4 (6-4, 6-4) won singles matches for AU.
  • For the Ashland men, freshman Rodrigo Moura Ludgero won 6-4, 7-5, at No. 3 singles.
QUOTABLES
  • "I am very happy with both teams," said Tim Dunford, Ashland Director of Tennis Operations, "but I have to admit I've never been more proud of a team that I've ever coached than I was of our women today. Tiffin is undefeated in G-MAC play for a reason. We played incredibly well. It came down to the third set of the last match. We proved that we belong in the G-MAC Tournament. I'm so very excited about where this women's team has come in such a short period of time."

UP NEXT
Ashland's women (noon) and men (4 p.m.) will play host to Findlay (men 10-9, 4-2; women 15-5, 6-1) on Saturday (April 15) to conclude the 2022-23 regular season.
