Down 27-0 after the first five weight classes on Friday (Feb. 3) night at Tiffin, the No. 21-ranked Ashland University wrestling team mounted a spirited comeback, but ultimately lost a 27-22 decision to the Dragons.
The Eagles are 6-9 in duals in 2022-23, and No. RV Tiffin is 5-2.
WHAT HAPPENED
- After two forfeits, a decision and two pins, Ashland went to work. Junior 165-pounder Drew Wiechers pinned Samuel Lofaso III in two minutes to start the comeback, and redshirt freshman 174-pounder Nate Barrett's 18-4 major decision over Connor Twigg cut the AU deficit to 27-10.
- Junior Daniel Beemer, the No. 5-ranked grappler in D-II at 184 pounds, pinned Iran Love in 2:42, then sophomore Walker Uhl, No. 6 in the country at 197 pounds, won a 7-0 decision against Jacob Noon.
- Ashland's fifth consecutive win to end the dual came at 285 pounds, as junior Ty Petrey won 8-4 over Dylan McCandless.
UP NEXT
Ashland will return to Kates Gymnasium for a home dual on Sunday (Feb. 5) at 3 p.m. against another Great Midwest Athletic Conference rival, Findlay (0-9).
