Ashland University's tennis teams split home matches vs. Lake Superior State on Saturday (Feb. 18) at the Aspen Racquet Club in nearby Wooster, Ohio.
Â
The Eagle women improved to 4-2 with a 4-3 win over the Lakers (1-3), while the AU men (2-3) lost a 4-3 decision to LSSU (3-1).
"Both of these teams grew so much today," said
Tim Dunford, Ashland University Director of Tennis Operations, "and especially over the last week. I am so incredibly proud of the women's team, could not really be happier with how they have grown over the last two or three matches."

WHAT HAPPENED
- Ashland's women got three singles victories from freshman Ana Penteado at No. 2 (6-2, 6-1), sophomore Claudia Adcock at No. 4 (6-3, 1-6, 6-4), and sophomore Kortney Reed at No. 5 (7-5, 3-6, 6-4). The doubles point was earned thanks to wins from Adcock and Reed at No. 2 (6-3), and freshmen Anna Corbel and Alley Stoehr at No. 3 (6-3).
- "Kortney came up absolutely huge," Dunford noted. "Down 4-2 in the third set and wins the last four games...which is what clinched the match for us."
- In the men's match, the Eagles received wins from sophomore William Rassat at No. 1 singles (6-3, 6-3), sophomore Fabian Bussard at No. 3 (7-6 (9-7), 0-6, 7-5) and freshman Rodrigo Moura Ludgero at No. 4 (4-6, 6-4, 6-2). Ludgero and Bussard won at No. 2 doubles, 6-2.
- "I saw a lot of growth today from the majority of the players," Dunford said of the men. "We were right there on the men's side, and winning on the women's side was big."
