No. 12 Eagles Lose Road Dual To No. 16 UPJ

In its second NCAA Division II Top 25 match-up in three days, the No. 12-ranked Ashland University wrestling team lost on Friday (Dec. 8) night at No. T-16 Pitt-Johnstown, 27-10.
 
The Eagles are 1-3 in duals so far in 2023-24, and the Mountain Cats are 5-1.
 
Ashland started Friday night with an upset, as redshirt freshman 125-pounder Luke Acuna toppled UPJ's No. 5-ranked Trevon Gray by an 11-7 decision. The Mountain Cats, however, would win the next five bouts to take a 20-3 lead.
 
Sophomore Nate Barrett, the No. 4-ranked grappler in D-II at 174 pounds, stopped the Pitt-Johnstown streak with a 9-5 win over Anthony Salopek. Then, the No. 2-ranked wrestler in the nation at 184 pounds, grad Daniel Beemer, earned a 16-5 major decision against Noah Gnibus.
