No. 12 Eagles Have Five Grapplers Alive To Start Midwest Classic Day 2

One Ashland University wrestler has earned a spot in the semifinals of the 44^th Annual Midwest Classic, following Day 1 action on Saturday (Dec. 16) in Indianapolis, Ind.
 
The No. 12-ranked Eagles will have graduate 157-pounder Drew Wiechers two wins away from a Midwest Classic title when action resumes on Sunday (Dec. 17) morning. Wiechers, ranked No. 8 in NCAA Division II, had an opening-round bye, then won decisions by 6-4, 5-1 and 7-0 counts.
 
Four Eagles still are active in the consolation bracket:

• Redshirt freshman 125-pounder Luke Acuna was 2-1 after an opening-round bye, taking an 11-3 major decision and a 14-11 decision.
• Freshman Hayden Kuhn is 4-1 at 149 pounds, winning 10-7 in overtime, a 19-3 technical fall, a 6-4 decision and a 13-4 major decision.
• Sophomore 174-pounder Nate Barrett, ranked No. 4 in the country, was 3-1 on Day 1, picking up a pin in 43 seconds, a 13-0 major decision and a 13-9 decision.
• Redshirt freshman 197-pounder Peyton Lemon went 3-1 on Saturday, winning via a 15-2 major decision and 13-11 and 17-11 decisions.

 
Ashland ended the day with 35.5 team points, and is in 22^nd place. Lander is in first place with 83 team points, followed by Central Oklahoma in second (77.5) and Chadron State in third (70).
