Ashland University's wrestling team opened its 2023-24 season with a strong showing at the Glenville State Invitational on Saturday (Nov. 4).

The Eagles finished in second place in the 11-team field with 135.5 team points – only bested by first-place Millersville (147.5 team points).

Two Ashland grapplers earned victories at their respective weight classes to begin the campaign. At 125 pounds, redshirt freshman
Luke Acuna won thanks to a 5-0 day which included two pins and a major decision. At 174 pounds, sophomore
Nate Barrett also went 5-0 to win his weight class, and that showing included a pin, a technical fall and a major decision.

Junior
Kaine Morris' season began by finishing second at 197 pounds. After an opening-round bye, Morris earned a pin and a decision before injury defaulting in the title match.

Silvers were earned on Saturday by three Eagles – junior 141-pounder
Gavin Weaver (4-1, three pins), fifth-year 157-pounder
Nick Carbone (3-1, two major decisions) and sophomore
Wyatt Bailey at 285 pounds (4-2, one pin, one major decision).

Ashland will go to Ohio University on Nov. 11 at 1 p.m. to take on the Bobcats and Tennessee-Chattanooga.
