Wrestling Takes Second At Season-Opening Glenville State Invite

Ashland University's wrestling team opened its 2023-24 season with a strong showing at the Glenville State Invitational on Saturday (Nov. 4).

The Eagles finished in second place in the 11-team field with 135.5 team points – only bested by first-place Millersville (147.5 team points).

Two Ashland grapplers earned victories at their respective weight classes to begin the campaign. At 125 pounds, redshirt freshman Luke Acuna won thanks to a 5-0 day which included two pins and a major decision. Junior Kaine Morris' season began by finishing second at 197 pounds. After an opening-round bye, Morris earned a pin and a decision before injury defaulting in the title match.

Silvers were earned on Saturday by three Eagles – junior 141-pounder Gavin Weaver (4-1, three pins), fifth-year 157-pounder Nick Carbone (3-1, two major decisions) and sophomore Wyatt Bailey at 285 pounds (4-2, one pin, one major decision).
