NOTABLES
- Ashland wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, as a career-long 61-yard rush by senior tailback Larry Martin set up his own one-yard scoring plunge for a 7-0 lead just 2:32 in. It was Martin's sixth rushing TD of 2023.
- Northwood countered on its first drive of the game with a 32-yard field goal from kicker Max Gonos at the 8:14 mark of the opening period.
- The Eagles scored two more touchdowns to make it a 21-3 advantage going into the break. With 7:54 to go until halftime, Martin's second rushing touchdown of the game and seventh of the season, a three-yarder, made it 14-3. Then, inside of the final minute of the half, junior quarterback Trevor Bycznski found senior wide receiver Dezmin Lyburtus for a 13-yard score.
- With 4:54 left in the third quarter, the Eagles extended their lead to 28-3 thanks to another Bycznski-to-Lyburtus scoring strike – this one from three yards out. Then, on the first play of the fourth quarter, Bycznski and Lyburtus connected for a third TD pass on the day, a five-yarder.
- Lyburtus became the first Eagle receiver to catch at least three TD tosses in a game since Kamaron Green (three) – six years to the day on Oct. 14, 2017 at home vs. Michigan Tech.
- Bycznski was 16-for-24 for 198 yards and three touchdowns, while Martin ran 18 times for 142 yards and two scores.
