Winning Men’s 200 Free Relay Highlights Opening Day For Eagle Swim And Dive

The 2023-24 season for Ashland University's swimming and diving teams began on Friday (Oct. 13) night at the Oberlin Early Invitational, and each team is in third place following five events to open the two-day invite.
 
NOTABLES

• The men's 200-yard freestyle relay team of sophomores Andrew Oates, Nick Girz and Cole Huebner and freshman Colin Pham took first place in 1:26.36. They also individually finished 2-5 in the men's 50 free – Girz second in 21.88 seconds, Huebner third in 22.07 seconds, Oates fourth in 22.19 seconds, and Pham fifth in 22.24 seconds.
• Also placing second on Friday were freshman Juliana Pignato in the women's 200 individual medley (2:15.49), freshman Evan Kemp in the men's 200 IM (1:59.50), and the men's 400 medley relay quartet of Kemp, sophomore Ayden Mason, senior Josh Hagan and freshman Grant Brown (3:39.60).
• Freshman Payton Meyer was third in the women's 50 free (25.96 seconds), while the women's 400 medley relay of freshman Emma Stoll, senior Sydney Porinchok, Meyer and freshman Blair Pichola was third in 4:15.24.
• In the women's 500 free, Stoll and sophomore Mary Kate Prall tied for fifth place in 5:32.79.
• The Eagle women have 151 team points – trailing first-place Case Western Reserve (316) and Oberlin (190). The AU men have 187 team points, behind only CWR (292) and Oberlin (237).
