The No. 24-ranked Ashland University wrestling team went 0-4Â at the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) National Dual Meet Championships at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville, Ky. on Friday and Saturday (Jan. 6 and 7).

WHAT HAPPENED
- The Eagles lost their opening dual on Friday to No. 11-ranked Mary, 37-8. In the first round of the consolation bracket, Ashland was defeated by Newberry, 33-10. Moving to the Division II 13-16 bracket, the Eagles lost to Colorado Mesa, 38-6, and Mercyhurst, 32-17.
- Junior Daniel Beemer, ranked No. 6 in NCAA Division II at 184 pounds, went 2-0 on Friday. He topped Mary's Wyatt Lidberg in a 17-8 major decision, then defeated Newberry's ZeBrandon Gant by pin in 3:32. Beemer went on to top Colorado Mesa's Jason Bynarowicz by a 6-1 decision, then Mercyhurst's Chase Stein by a 19-5 major decision.
- Another junior, Tyler Masters, earned a major-decision victory over Mary's Jaden Verhagen at 125 pounds, 12-4, while freshman Jeremiah McKee was a 16-8 major-decision victor against Newberry's Fletcher Swindell.
- Junior 285-pounder Ty Petrey took a 3-1 overtime win from Colorado Mesa's Ruben Samuelson, then won a 9-0 major decision against Mercyhurst's Michael DeLuca. Other Eagle victories against the Lakers came from redshirt freshman Nate Barrett over Mark McGonigal at 174 pounds (16-0 technical fall) and sophomore Kaine Morris over John Campbell at 197 pounds (10-1 major decision).
