No. 24 Ashland Wrestlers Go 2-0 At Regional Duals

The No. 24-ranked Ashland University wrestling team traveled to Tiffin on Saturday (Jan. 14) for the Regional Duals, and came back with a 2-0 record.
 
Defeating Bluefield State (54-0) and No. RV Lake Erie (23-21), the Eagles moved to 6-8 in duals in 2022-23.
 
WHAT HAPPENED

• The dual against Bluefield State saw victories from junior Tyler Masters at 125 pounds (15-0 technical fall), freshman Jeremiah McKee at 133 pounds (pin in 1:51), freshman Andru Hollopeter at 141 pounds (7-0 decision), freshman Zander Graham at 149 pounds (20-5 tech fall), junior Nick Carbone at 157 pounds (pin in 4:15), freshman Nate Barrett at 174 pounds (16-0 tech fall), and No. 8-ranked sophomore Walker Uhl at 197 pounds (pin in 3:29).
• Ashland won the other three duals by forfeit.
• Against the Storm, the Eagles trailed 21-6 before No. 6-ranked junior 184-pounder Daniel Beemer took a 23-8 tech fall, then Ashland benefited from back-to-back forfeits to finish the dual.
• The other AU victories against Lake Erie were earned by Masters at 125 (8-6 decision) and freshman Sevriano Garza at 165 (11-4 decision).

Ashland will play host to the 2023 Great Midwest Athletic Conference Championships on Jan. 21, starting at 9 a.m., at Kates Gymnasium.
