Ashland University's wrestling team returned to Kates Gymnasium on Thursday (Jan. 12) night, as the No. 24-ranked Eagles lost to No. 4-ranked West Liberty, 30-10.
Â
WHAT HAPPENED
- Thursday night's match was a contrast in experience – the Hilltoppers boasting six seniors, and the Eagles, marred of late with injuries, lining up five freshmen.
- Two of Ashland's nationally-ranked veterans – junior Daniel Beemer at 184 pounds and sophomore Walker Uhl at 197 pounds – did their usual good work at the end of the dual. Beemer, No. 6 in NCAA Division II at 184, earned a 14-5 major decision against Chance Morgan, while Uhl, No. 8 in the country at 197, topped Drake Kendrex, 6-1.
- Ashland's first win of the night came from freshman Sevi Garza, who was a 9-4 winner of Alec Cook at 165 pounds.
