Eagle Men, Women Host Day 1 Of Doubles Invitational

On Friday (Sept. 30), Ashland University's tennis teams began playing host to the three-day Doubles Invitational at the Deborah Liebert Karl Tennis Complex and Brookside Park.
 
WHAT HAPPENED

• Ashland's women started the event with three Friday victories. In Flight A, freshman Ana Penteado and sophomore Kortney Reed lost their first match 8-5 before defeating Irene Latorre Barreiro and Johanna Michahelles from Saginaw Valley State, 8-4.
• The Eagles' Flight B duo of freshman Anna Corbel and sophomore Claudia Adcock won 8-6 over Charitha Patlolla and Kim Nguyen of the College of Wooster to open play, then lost their second match, 8-4.
• In Flight D, freshman Alley Stoehr and sophomore Josie Gorges topped Wooster's Abby Aitken and Margaret Steward, 8-6.
• On the men's side, in Flight D, AU's team of freshmen Gabriel Seminario and Reid Opel won an 8-3 decision from Wooster's Alex Anikeeff and Atomu Maruyama.
• In Flight A, freshmen William Rassat and Tomas Paskauskas lost two 8-6 matches; in Flight B, sophomores Fabian Bussard and Omar Prince lost 9-8(5) and 8-5; and in Flight C, Opel and freshman Benedikt Weinboerner lost 8-4.
