After five years at Ashland University, it's hard to find a top honor that senior
Trevor Bassitt hasn't earned.
One more of those top honors can be scratched off that list, because, on Wednesday (June 8) afternoon, Bassitt was named U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division II Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year.
Bassitt, who recently finished his collegiate career with 10 national championships and 21 All-American citations, is the first Eagle to earn that distinction. That 10
th national title came in the men's 400 hurdles at the 2022 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships, and his winning time of 48.98 seconds cemented his place as the No. 4 performer in the event all-time.
Indoors, Bassitt has been the USTFCCCA national Men's Track Athlete of the Year three times (2020-22).
This award adds to Bassitt's 2021-22 season credentials, which also include:
- Four D-II national titles – three indoors, one outdoors
- Five D-II All-American honors – three indoors, two outdoors
- USTFCCCA D-II Midwest Region Men's Track Athlete of the Year
- Great Midwest Athletic Conference outdoor men's track Athlete of the Year
- College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District
- Ashland's first The Bowerman Watch List honoree, March 24, 2022
- 2022 IAAF Worlds indoor silver medal in the men's 400-meter dash
