Ashland University's athletic department racked up three Great Midwest Athletic Conference weekly awards on Monday (May 2) afternoon, as the 2022 spring season enters its final calendar month.
Men's outdoor track and field swept the latest conference honors, with senior
Brent Fairbanks earning league Men's Outdoor Field Athlete honors, and the 4x100 relay team of senior
Aaron Banks, sophomore
Doniven Jackson, senior
Channing Phillips and senior
Keshun Jones being named Men's Outdoor Runners of the Week.
In baseball, senior closer
Perry Bewley earned conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week laurels.
- The men's 4x100 relay moved into the No. 3 spot in NCAA Division II following an effort at the Ashland Alumni Open on Saturday (April 30) of 39.65 seconds – an effort which not only won the race, but also was a school record and facility record.

- Fairbanks was sixth in the men's hammer elite division on Day 1 of the Ashland Alumni Open on Friday (April 29), with a top heave of 61.82 meters/202-feet-10, and that mark put him in the No. 8 spot in D-II this spring.
Ashland's men's and women's outdoor track and field teams will compete at the 2022 Great Midwest Championships on Wednesday-Friday (May 4-6) in Owensboro, Ky..
- Bewley appeared in three of the Eagles' four games in their home sweep of Findlay over the weekend, and earned two saves and a win out of the bullpen. In 4 1/3 innings, he allowed two hits, two runs (none earned) and three walks and struck out eight.
Once again one of the top closers in Division II, Bewley is 1-1 with seven saves and a 1.86 earned-run average this spring, striking out 39 and walking 11 in 29 innings.
Ashland baseball (29-15 overall, 20-8 Great Midwest) was scheduled to play at home on Tuesday (May 3) at 4:30 p.m. against Mount Vernon Nazarene, but the game has been canceled. The Eagles finish the regular season with four games at Kentucky Wesleyan (22-24, 18-10) on Friday and Saturday (May 6-7).
