The 2022-23 home opener for the No. 17-ranked Ashland University wrestling team finished with a 25-9 loss to No. 6-ranked Pitt-Johnstown at Kates Gymnasium.

WHAT HAPPENED
- After UPJ took the first matches at 125 and 133 pounds, junior 141-pounder Gavin Weaver got the Eagles on the board with a 7-0 decision over the No. 9 grappler in the country in Caleb Morris. Weaver used a first-period takedown and near-fall, as well as a riding-time point, to record the upset.
- No. 7-ranked junior 184-pounder Daniel Beemer gave the Eagles three more team points when he outlasted No. 11-ranked Brock Biddle, 10-7.
- Sophomore Walker Uhl, No. 8 in the country at 197 pounds, topped Dakoda Rodgers, and did so thanks to a reversal in the third overtime.

Ashland will go to Indianapolis, Ind., for the 43
rd Midwest Classic on Dec. 17-18. The Eagles have had a storied history at the Classic, having the most team titles (eight), most individual championships (43), and most placers (247) of any program all-time.
