No. 17 Eagle Wrestlers Lose At No. 18 Lakers

On Friday (Dec. 2) night in Erie, Pa., the No. 17-ranked Ashland University wrestling team lost to No. 18 Mercyhurst, 19-14.
 
The Eagles are 4-2 in duals so far in 2022-23.
 
WHAT HAPPENED
  • Junior Tyler Masters got Ashland on the board early, defeating Travis Browning by an 8-3 count at 125 pounds. Trailing 10-3, the Eagles received back-to-back wins from junior Nick Carbone, 8-2 over Max Stedeford, at 157 pounds, and junior Drew Wiechers, a 12-4 major decision over Jaden Reagle, at 165 pounds.
  • In his first action of the season, junior Daniel Beemer won an 18-7 major decision over Trever Begin at 184 pounds to put AU ahead at 14-13, but the Lakers won at 197 and 285 to seal the victory.

The 2022-23 home debut on Dec. 9 at 7 p.m. vs. No. 6-ranked Pitt-Johnstown at Kates Gymnasium.
