The first day of the 43
rd Midwest Classic was contested on Saturday (Dec. 17) in Indianapolis, Ind., and when the dust settled, three wrestlers for No. 17-ranked Ashland University advanced to the second and final day.

WHAT HAPPENED
- Beemer, the No. 7-ranked wrestler in the country at 184, went 3-0 on Saturday, earning an 18-5 major decision, an 8-3 decision and a 3-1 overtime win. The OT victory came against No. 10-ranked Josh Jones of McKendree.
- Wiechers, No. 3 in the nation at 165, earned a 6-3 decision and a 12-2 major decision before losing in the quarterfinals to No. 6-ranked Jack Eiteljorge of Indianapolis.
- Like Wiechers, Uhl, No. 8 in the country at 197, won his first two matches of the day (pin in 1:09, 9-4 decision) before falling in the quarters to No. 4-ranked Tereus Henry of Fort Hays State.
- Also on Saturday, junior Tyler Masters was 3-2 at 125 pounds, freshman Jeremiah McKee was 2-2 at 133, junior Gavin Weaver was 0-2 at 141, junior Nick Carbone was 1-2 at 157, junior Corbin May was 1-2 at 174, and junior Ty Petrey was 1-2 at 285.
- Through Day 1, the Eagles have 23.5 team points, and are in 25th place. Central Oklahoma (107) is in first place, followed by Pitt-Johnstown (64.5) and Mary (54).
