No. 11 Eagle Grapplers Go 1-2 At NWCA National Duals

Returning to action for the first time in the new year on Thursday (Jan. 6) in Louisville, Ky., the No. 11-ranked Ashland University wrestling team went 1-2 at the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) National Duals.
 
WHAT HAPPENED

• On Thursday, the Eagles started the day with a 24-15 win over Fort Hays State. Sophomore 133-pounder Gavin Weaver won 9-3, followed by a pin from junior 141-pounder Luke Wymer in 5:46. Ashland then received four straight victories to put the match away – 11-4 from senior 157-pounder Chance Esmont, 15-3 major from junior Drew Wiechers at 165, 22-6 technical fall from junior Daniel Beemer at 174 and 4-3 from senior Aidan Pasiuk at 184.
• A 40-3 loss to No. 5-ranked Nebraska-Kearney followed. Beemer's 9-6 decision at 174 was the Eagles' lone victory.
• Ashland's day ended with a 29-11 loss to No. 3-ranked McKendree. Esmont (13-4 major), Beemer (10-0 major) and Pasiuk (11-10) all earned decisions against the Bearcats.

 
THE WRAP-UP

• Beemer went 3-0 on the day, improving the No. 10-ranked 174 pounder in NCAA Division II to 16-3 on the season.
