On the first day of the 2022 Great Midwest Athletic Conference Championships on Friday (Jan. 21) at Lake Erie College, the No. 12-ranked Ashland University wrestling team, following a bye, took a 44-6 decision from Kentucky Wesleyan.

WHAT HAPPENED
- Of the Eagles' eight victories on Friday night, two were by pins, one was by technical fall, one was by decision, and four were by forfeit.
- Ashland's pins were of the quick variety, as senior 157-pounder Chance Esmont pinned DeAunte Epp in 29 seconds, and senior 184-pounder Aidan Pasiuk, ranked No. 6 in NCAA Division II, took down Chris Mapp in 23 seconds.
- Junior 174-pounder Daniel Beemer, the No. 2 grappler at that weight in the country, won 21-3 over Thomas Karlo, and senior 125-pounder Christian Wellman topped Nick Ornelas, 7-5.

- Through the first two rounds of the Championships, Lake Erie is 2-0, Ashland and Tiffin are 1-0, and Findlay and Kentucky Wesleyan are 0-2.

The dual-format Championships will conclude on Saturday (Jan. 22), as the Eagles will take on Tiffin at 10 a.m., Findlay at noon and the host Storm at 2 p.m.
