On Saturday (Jan. 15) afternoon, Ashland University's women's swimming and diving team competed for the second day in a row, and the Eagle men went to work against other teams for the first time in more than two months.
The women's results saw Ashland losing 156-80 to Saginaw Valley State and 151-74 to host Hillsdale. On the men's side, the Eagles fell to the Cardinals, 167-67.
WHAT HAPPENED
- Three Eagle men earned first-place finishes on Saturday – junior Franci Aleksi in the men's 1,000-yard freestyle in 9:49.97, sophomore Josh Hagan in the men's 200 butterfly in 2:01.21, and junior Amar Sapcanin in the men's 200 breaststroke in 2:12.65.
- SECOND PLACE – Aleksi in the men's 500 free (4:53.00), senior Matt Filsinger in the men's 400 individual medley (4:19.21) and the men's 200 backstroke (2:00.71), senior Isaac Osterfeld in the men's 1-meter diving (212.35 points) and men's 3-meter diving (208.40 points), and senior Sydney Kermath in the women's 200 back (2:14.42).
- THIRD PLACE – Sophomore Ben Voelker in the men's 200 back (2:03.62), junior Sydney Laughlin in the women's 400 IM (4:50.02), junior Veronica Eckroth in the women's 1-meter diving (180.15 points) and women's 3-meter diving (197.00 points), junior Abby Locke in the women's 200 breaststroke (2:33.87), the women's 200 medley relay team of sophomore Gabby Diehl, Locke, sophomore Sydney Porinchok and freshman Colleen Cox (1:55.4); the men's 200 medley relay team of Voelker, Sapcanin, Hagan and junior Joe Cummins (1:42.33); the women's 200 free relay team of senior Abigail Ellsworth, Porinchok, Kermath and Cox (1:45.68); and the men's 200 free relay team of senior Jacob Keilholz, Cummins, senior Panos Nikakis and Sapcanin (1:32.56).
