In January, Ashland University's wrestling team earned the Eagle athletic department's first Great Midwest Athletic Conference championship, by virtue of being an associate member of the league.
On Thursday (July 15) morning, seven Eagle grapplers became the first AU student-athletes to earn Academic All-Conference honors from the Great Midwest – junior
Peter Abraham, sophomore
Nick Carbone, sophomore
Levi Jones, freshman
Colton Turnbaugh, freshman
Gavin Weaver, sophomore
Drew Wiechers and junior
Justin Wilcox.
To be eligible for Great Midwest Academic All-Conference honors, a student-athlete's grade-point average must be a minimum of 3.30 based on the 4.0 system. The GPA shall be cumulative for the student-athlete's entire collegiate career. Eligible student-athletes must have completed at least one full academic year at the nominating institution.
On July 1, Ashland's athletic department officially became a member of the 12-institution Great Midwest.
A total of 2,227 Great Midwest Academic All-Conference honors were earned in 2020-21.
