Playing in one of their homes away from home on Sunday (Feb. 14), Ashland University's men's and women's tennis teams each topped Edinboro at Aspen Racquet Club in nearby Wooster.
Both Eagle teams improve to 1-1 on the young 2021 spring season after a 7-0 win for the women and a 4-3 victory for the men on Sunday. The wins also were the first at Ashland for first-year Director of Tennis Operations
Tim Dunford.
"Good teams always find a way to win, and that's exactly what we did today," Dunford said of his teams, which weren't able to play a fall season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. "Being able to work through the adversity and find that extra motivation was the key. Saying that I am proud of these teams is truly an understatement."
Ashland's women won all six singles matches and all three doubles contests. In singles, victories were earned by junior
Gabriella Hudec at No. 1 (6-4, 6-2), senior
Camille Ringot at No. 2 (6-0, 6-0), junior
Huntyr Lake at No. 3 (6-3, 6-1), sophomore
Zoe Rosu at No. 4 (6-0, 6-2), senior
Anna Hart at No. 5 (6-0, 6-0), and sophomore

In doubles, Hudec and Ringot won 7-5 at No. 1, Lake and Hart took a 6-0 decision at No. 2, and Rosu and Conrad was victorious, 6-1, at No. 3.
On the men's side, the Eagles and Fighting Scots split the six singles matches, but AU got the team win thanks to winning two of three doubles decisions.
