Eagle Men, Women Top Oberlin In Home Dual

On Saturday (Nov. 6) afternoon at the Messerly Natatorium, Ashland University's men's and women's swimming and diving teams each defeated Oberlin – 188-95 on the men's side and 154-139 on the women's side.
 
WHAT HAPPENED

• Junior Franci Aleksi turned in three winning performances on Saturday, finishing first in the men's 1,000-yard freestyle in 9:49.63, the men's 200 butterfly in 1:58.97, and the men's 500 freestyle in 4:53.31.
• Fellow junior Amar Sapcanin was a winner in both the men's 100 breaststroke (1:01.87) and men's 200 breaststroke (2:14.06), and was a member of the winning men's 400 medley relay quartet, which included junior Joe Cummins, senior Jacob Keilholz and senior Panos Nikakis (3:40.66).
• Sophomore Chuck Malberti took a pair of diving events, the men's 3-meter (202.10 points) and men's 1-meter (225.00 points), while senior Matt Filsinger won both the men's 200 backstroke (1:59.87) and men's 200 individual medley (2:04.65).
• On the women's side, junior Abby Locke won both the 200 breaststroke (2:31.06) and 200 IM (2:13.81), junior Makayla Tarkenton was fastest in the 100 breaststroke (1:10.28), senior Morgan Gardner took the 200 butterfly (2:24.60), junior Veronica Eckroth won the 3-meter diving (197.35 points), and freshman Kristal Boyd-Hughes won the 1-meter diving (205.55 points).
• Ashland women won both the 400 medley relay (sophomore Gabby Diehl, Tarkenton, sophomore Sydney Porinchok and Gardner, 4:17.07) and the 400 free relay (freshman Colleen Cox, Porinchok, Diehl and Locke, 3:46.03).
• The men's 400 free relay team of Nikakis, Cummins, senior Ben Hongell and Keilholz won in 3:19.56, and freshman Robin Falk was victorious in the men's 200 free in 1:46.34.
