Box Score FINDLAY, Ohio – Findlay kicker Austin Snyder's 35-yard field goal as the final seconds ticked off the clock sent Ashland University's football team to a 20-17 loss on Saturday (Nov. 6) afternoon at Donnell Stadium.
The Eagles are 4-5 overall and 3-3 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference, while the Oilers continue to seek a league championship at 7-3, 5-1.
WHAT HAPPENED
- At the 4:30 mark of the first quarter, junior kicker Storm Elsesser made a 32-yard field goal to put the Eagles up 3-0. Ashland extended its advantage to 10-0 with 6:56 left until halftime when sophomore tailback Larry Martin went in from two yards out for his eighth rushing TD of the season.
- Findlay got on the board with 19 seconds left until the break when Snyder made a 29-yard field goal – making it a 10-3 score going into halftime.
- Ashland took the first drive of the second half and went 11 plays for 70 yards to go up 17-7, capping it off when freshman quarterback Cameron Blair found junior wide receiver Keshun Jones for a 25-yard TD strike.
- The Oilers then took advantage of a missed field goal, scoring on the next drive when running back Brian Benson went in from 11 yards out and cutting the deficit to 17-10 with 12 ticks to go in the third quarter.
- With 3:28 to go in the game, the Oilers went for it on fourth-and-11 from the AU 18, and quarterback Matt Winzeler found wide receiver Marlin Richardson in the end zone for the tying touchdown – setting up Snyder's heroics at the gun.
NOTES
- Blair, making his first collegiate start, finished 14-of-25 for 220 yards and a touchdown.
- Three Eagle defenders – junior linebacker Michael Ayers (12), junior safety Justin Moore (10), and sophomore linebacker Jackson Myers (10) – had double-digit tackles in the loss.
