Ashland Women, Men Beat Pioneers At Home

On Saturday (Nov. 13) afternoon at the Messerly Natatorium, Ashland University's men's and women's swimming and diving teams each earned their second straight home victory, topping Malone 113-77 (women) and 115-106 (men).
 
WHAT HAPPENED

• Ashland swimmers and divers earned 16 victories on Saturday in scored events, paced by Sydney Kermath and junior Joe Cummins. Kermath took the women's 100-yard backstroke (1:00.65) and women's 200 freestyle (2:02.65), while Cummins won the men's 100 back (55.29 seconds) and men's 50 free (22.44 seconds).
• The men's 800 free relay team of senior Matt Filsinger, senior Panos Nikakis, junior Amar Sapcanin and senior Ben Hongell won in 7:20.96, while Hongell (men's 200 free, 1:49.70), Sapcanin (men's 100 breaststroke, 59.67 seconds) and Filsinger (men's 400 individual medley, 4:12.26) all won individual events.
• Eagle women earning victories were junior Makayla Tarkenton in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.63), sophomore Sydney Porinchok in the 100 butterfly (1:02.87), freshman Colleen Cox in the 50 free (25.88 seconds), junior Sydney Laughlin in the 400 IM (4:49.91) and junior Veronica Eckroth in 1-meter diving (215.45).
• Men's individual wins also were turned in by sophomore Josh Hagan in the 100 fly (53.31 seconds), junior Franci Aleksi in the 1,000 free (9:46.21), and senior Isaac Osterfeld in 1-meter diving (212.05 points).
