No. 7 Eagles Lose Opening Dual Of Season At Lourdes

On Friday (Nov. 12) night, Ashland University's No. 7-ranked wrestling team lost a late 22-19 decision at Lourdes in the Eagles' first dual of the 2021-22 season.
 
WHAT HAPPENED
  • Sophomore Cael Woods (4-2) started the dual with a pin in 1:12 at 125 pounds, giving AU a quick 6-0 lead.
  • After three consecutive losses, the Eagles rallied with four straight wins. Senior Chance Esmont (4-1) won a 6-5 decision at 157 pounds, senior Cameron Jenkins (6-1) took a 3-1 decision at 165, junior Daniel Beemer (5-0) was a 19-6 major decision winner at 174, and senior Aidan Pasiuk (5-0) won 5-0 at 184.
  • Ashland led 19-13 at that point, but Lourdes won on injury default and in overtime to earn the victory.
 
UP NEXT
Ashland will compete on Sunday (Nov. 14) at 9 a.m. at the Ohio Intercollegiate Open in Tiffin.
